Elsa Nelligan teaches traditional Ballet Folklòrico in South Austin, She is originally from Matamoros, Mexico where she spent her childhood falling in love with dance. She formed Ballet Folklòrico Mexikayotl in 1999 to help children learn more about Mexican culture
through dance.
A Barber’s Tale
Don Stafford at the Wooten Barbershop, one of the oldest barbershops in Austin, TX. He first started working there in 1994 after working as a carpenter for several years. Now, he acts as a mentor for college students from UT-Austin by listening to their problems while he cuts their hair.
Papi Churro
Valeri Abrego is a drag king in Austin, TX who performs at both drag and burlesque shows. They draw inspiration from macho hispanic men from TV shows that they watched growing up. Starting 2018, they also perform at Joterìas, a monthly drag show highlighting Latinx drag in the Austin area.
